The easyRESCUE-PRO is a lightweight personal locating device to be affixed to clothing or lifejackets or to be mounted onto a pole for use on life rafts.
The unit combines AIS locating functionality with a VHF alert: DSC) distress call (MOB)
The AIS-SART alerts the parent ship and all vessels within range PLUS Digital Selective Calling (DSC) for ALL Ships if the vessels nearby do not acknowledge the initial distress alert.
By means of the DSC distress call, other vessels having DSC controllers aboard are potentially able to provide emergency support.
Upon activation, the easyRESCUE-PRO device starts transmitting position reports via AIS, providing the current GPS position along with COG, SOG and the unit’s individual unit ID.
The unit’s position is updated every minute and transmitted 8 times per minute for at least 96 hours, depending on the DSC closed loop distress acknowledgment. The parent ship will then know the unit’s position, as will every other ship with an AIS receiver or a DSC controller within range.
When an emergency AIS S.A.R.T. message is transmitted, a safety related message is triggered on every AIS chart plotter with a worldwide standardised symbol and a predefined “SART ACTIVE” text.
By means of DSC distress call (MOB), this signal can be received by the GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety Service) which is installed on numerous vessels and shore stations. The MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre) is connected to the GMDSS (DSC) network.
The easyRESCUE-PRO starts sending “closed loop” DSC distress alerts when activated. This message is addressed to the parent ship. At this point no global alarm is initiated. The crew on the parent ship can opt to rescue the MOB and send out a DSC acknowledgment to the easyRESCUE-PRO, which stops sending DSC messages.
If the own ship has not acknowledged the “closed loop“ alert, the easyRESCUE-PRO starts sending an “open loop” DSC distress call (MOB) to all ships. The shore station or other ship stations nearby can then acknowledge this message and the easyRESCUE-PRO will also stop transmitting via DSC and the global rescue operation will then continue.
What other equipment is necessary?
The easyRESCUE-PRO needs no additional accessories. However, we recommend installing an AIS receiver and a DSC controller on the parent ship. This equipment will facilitate a faster and more effective rescue response in the event of a MOB emergency.
